About The Weaver

What is The Weaver?

The Weaver is an initiative by Ananya Singh who aims to make it a part of all contributors willing to send in their work for publishing in the magazine.

Focusing on variety and inclusion of all types of work, the magazine was named ‘The Weaver’ because of the word’s varied meanings. A Weaver is a species of a bird, a representation of a spider weaving a web, a person who does handicraft thereby creating new and unique objects of perfection, and of course, a reference to the mythological aspect of Athena, the goddess of knowledge, who invented the loom and the spider.

"All these are depictions of creativity and the ideals we believe in: the strive towards perfection, freedom of thoughts, sharing of knowledge, and the honing of talent. The Weaver is the product of a wish to provide a voice to the talent out there."

We cover a plethora of writing styles and topics, including but not limited to, current topics (news), scientific facts and explanations, jokes, riddles and puzzles, new film/series/book releases and reviews, interesting and unknown information, and the creative work (art, poems, stories, reviews, critical appreciations, informative texts) of the many talented individuals out there. We believe that children are more likely to know the current interests of their peers and are more open to suggestions and changes.
Come, let us weave together a magazine for children, by children!

Why The Weaver?

Teachers often tell children to read the news, however a common problem occurs: newspapers and online apps rarely have age appropriate news. In fact, the news is often unrelated and uninteresting to a child and they focus energy into disliking the activity than actually gaining any form of knowledge or skills.

It was the same with me when I was 11 years old.

That is when The Children’s Post of India became a part of my life. It was a daily four-page newspaper with only two pieces of positive news, the other pages being riddles, stories, contributions, or features. I loved the concept so much, I requested the editor to let me write for the paper, which led to the birth of the Young Journalist Program where I was selected to be one of the first Empower Journalists. After being coached by experts in their field, inclusive of but not limited to Ms. Roopa Pai, Mr. Bhavneet S. Aurora, Ms. Bhavna Vij, etc. I wrote for the newspaper weekly for a year, at the end of which it converted into a website.

After the internship got over, I set to looking for magazines which included the news, or newspapers which included features, riddles, jokes, contributions, etc. Imagine my surprise, when extensive research found that these didn’t exist!

So I started my own; a monthly magazine providing a mix of news, interesting features related to special or current events, mind blowing facts, hilarious jokes, creative reviews, touching poems and a lot more!
